The Dalton’s – The bandits who brought hash to the Wild West

A column by

There are stories that are told around a fire, late at night, when the mountains fall silent and only the embers light up the faces. Stories where it's hard to tell what's true, what's exaggerated, and what's simply been invented to make the young ones tremble. And among these stories is that of the Dalton's.

No one really knows where they came from. Some say they were brothers, others that they were just a bunch of guys too tight-knit to really tell apart. But all agree on one thing: they had a dangerous talent for home-made hash.

The art of disappearing... and creating

The Dalton's weren't the type to stay in one saloon for long. We'd see them appear at dawn, the time of a black coffee, the time of a deal, then disappear before the light really entered the room. But behind their bandit-like appearance, there was a know-how that even the most serious farmers silently respected.

They had their own way of working resin like a living material: roll it between the palms, heat it gently, press it until it sings between the fingers. Each piece they shaped, whether light, dark, dry or creamy, bore their imprint: that of mastered malice.

This is how their most sought-after creations were born: Golden Pollen, Lebanese, Moroccan, Charras... treasures sometimes copied, never equaled. Even today, their heritage can be found in the range, now renamed Wild Wild Hash - a deliberate nod to the band's dark and brilliant past.

Outlaws... but artists

You'd think the Dalton's were in it for the money. For coin bags. For quick exchanges at the end of dirt roads.

But those who observed them closely tell a different story. They tell of men who took their time, who smelled every nuance, who knew a good material from a simple wrinkle of the nose. Their hash wasn't a business: it was a signature.

They worked in the shadows, often in forgotten shacks where light barely filtered through the floorboards. You could hear wood creaking, tools sliding, hands rubbing. And when they emerged, they held between their fingers a perfectly smooth, heavy block, ready to become a legend in its own right.

They laid the foundations

When Wild Wild Weed was launched, it was long thought that Calamity and Sitting Bull would be the only figures of the modern Wild West. But as the tide turned and needs changed, hash was needed. The real thing. Good stuff. Handcrafted.

That's where the Dalton's came in. Their methods, their secret recipes, their dubious humor but diabolical precision gave birth to an entire range of artisanal resins that we continue to honor today as Wild Wild Hash.

Without them, Wild Wild Weed wouldn't have this third spine. Without them, the universe would be incomplete. Without them, CBD cowboys wouldn't have that extra bit of character to slip into their grinders.

The indomitable heritage

Some claim to have spotted the Dalton's recently, at dusk, in the smoke behind a saloon. Others say they have passed on their knowledge to a handful of apprentices capable of working the resin with the same blend of strength and gentleness.

The truth? It's the same as all the legends of the Wild West: always blurred, always changing, always alive.

But one thing's for sure: every time you hold a block of Wild Wild Hash between your fingers, you're holding a piece of their history. A trace of their laughter, their chaos, their genius.

The Dalton's may not have been saints. But their creations... well, that was great art.

Inspired by the legend of the Dalton's, our Wild Wild Hash range brings together the finest resins and artisanal pollens from Swiss CBD. Golden Pollen, Lebanese, Moroccan or Charras: creations crafted according to tradition and prized in CBD shops. For hash CBD enthusiasts looking for a resin with character, the Dalton's spirit lives on in each hand-crafted block.

The stories of Calamity Weed, Sitting Bull, the Dalton brothers, Sheriff Blackwood and the Wild West Chronicles are all fiction. Any resemblance to existing or former persons is purely coincidental.
